Institute for
Transatlantic Humanities

Observing the life of the humanities, and measuring it to the source.

The humanities are discussed endlessly and observed almost never. Enrolment is counted, output is counted, rank is counted. What is produced, how it is received, where it travels and what becomes of it across the Atlantic is left to anecdote. The Institute exists to build the research infrastructure that can answer those questions with evidence that is longitudinal, provenance-bearing and auditable to the page, and to publish what it finds.

Observatory

The founding research programme: a standing record of scholarly production, reception and transmission across the humanities, built source by source and kept over time.

Method

Preserve evidence. Separate observation from inference. Keep time as first-class data. The founding principles, and what they forbid.

People

The founding director, and a board of directors now being assembled.
